A little help goes a long way

Recently, we have encountered exceptionally high temperatures, resulting in prolonged fires in Kunia. It is anticipated that other areas of the island may soon face similar brushfire challenges. City Councilwoman Andria Tupola has contacted the Ho'omau Fire Academy to discuss a potential partnership to secure 40 fire extinguishers for the homeless encampments along the Waianae coast. At Ho'omau, we are dedicated to mitigating the risk of brushfires caused by open-flame cooking by providing essential fire safety equipment. This preventative measure ensures that fire department resources remain "in service" and available to assist those in need, rather than being occupied with a brushfire for extended periods.
In response, we acquired 40 (5 lbs) ABC fire extinguishers from Home Depot and promptly delivered them to Kalala, the safety coordinator for the homeless community at Waianae Boat Harbor.
Kalala informed us that all residents at the Boat Harbor will soon be required to vacate the area due to a deadline set by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, which has expedited the construction of housing units in Waianae Valley. We are reaching out to our supporters for donations to help offset the cost of the extinguishers. Contributions can be made on our website at www.hoomaufireacademy.org/donate. We greatly appreciate your support. Mahalo!
